Canggu Resort ( Canggu) – Description: Changuu can be divided into four beaches and districts: Berawa, Batu Bolong, Echo, and the distant Pererenan area. All beaches are not suitable for swimming and are popular among surfers. The districts of Changuu include Kerobokan and Umalas.
Advantages of Canggu: Canggu offers a beautiful ocean with black volcanic sandy beaches and preserved rice fields. The infrastructure is well-developed, with plenty of restaurants, clubs, hotels, and long-term rental houses available. Canggu is considered a surfing destination for experienced surfers. It is also a creative hub where people engage in yoga, healthy eating, and art fairs.
Canggu can be roughly divided based on the beach names: Berawa, Batu Bolong, Echo Beach, and Pererenan. The most populated and touristy area is Berawa, which is closest to Seminyak and Kuta. Batu Bolong is the central area of Canggu, featuring shops, cozy restaurants, villas, and hotels. It is also home to the most popular surf spot. Echo Beach is a charming and more tranquil surfing spot. Pererenan is a quiet village on the outskirts of Canggu, suitable for families with children.

The beaches in Canggu are divided into three main sections: Berawa, Batu Bolong, and Echo Beach, spanning a total length of approximately 8 kilometers. The ocean here is wild, with powerful waves, making the beaches unsuitable for swimming but perfect for surfing. Canggu’s beaches have become popular among surfers, with several surf spots catering to experienced surfers (more details below). One of the undeniable advantages of Canggu’s beaches is the extensive stretch of sandy shore, ideal for walks and jogging. Another highlight of Canggu is the stunning sunset over the ocean, offering magnificent views. It has become a tradition for Canggu’s residents to gather and enjoy the sunset, often accompanied by grilled corn. During sunset, you will also notice another unique aspect of Canggu if you visit the beach – expats walking their dogs along the shore. Canggu is known as the most dog-friendly beach in Bali.
In Canggu, there are plenty of opportunities to interact with horses, as there are around ten stables in the area. The most popular ones include Bali Equestrian Centre, Kuda P Stables, and Bali Horse Adventure (Pererenan). Visitors can enjoy horseback riding along the ocean and capture beautiful photos.
Who particularly loves Canggu?
Surfers, families with children, and yoga enthusiasts and creative individuals who couldn’t find the ocean in Ubud.

Batu Bolong Beach (and the surrounding area) can be located on the map by the main street called Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong. There are beach loungers and umbrellas available for rent (50,000 Indonesian Rupiah), a few beachfront cafes, and coconuts to enjoy. However, sometimes there can be a significant amount of litter. Batu Bolong Beach is a surf spot suitable for intermediate surfers (after their initial lessons in Kuta) and experienced surfers. Swimming is not recommended due to the large waves.
Berawa Beach (Pantai Berawa) can be located on the map by its name or by the well-known beach club, Finns, which is situated right on the beach near the main entrance. During the day, there are beach loungers and umbrellas available. Surfing equipment such as boards and wetsuits can be rented.
Echo Beach (also known as Pantai Batu Mejan) is located further west of Berawa. There are many bamboo warungs (small beachside restaurants) and a few other restaurants along the beach. It is a surfing beach and a popular spot for experienced surfers.
In Canggu, there are several surf spots catering to different levels of experience:
- Batu Bolong: A surf spot for “intermediate surfers” who have completed their basic surfing course and can already stand on a surfboard. It offers calm and long waves. There are surfboard rental shops available here, and it is recommended to practice on larger surfboards.
- Old Man’s: A surf spot suitable for surfers with an average level of experience.
- Echo Beach: This beach is suitable for experienced surfers.
- Pererenan: Also recommended for experienced surfers.
Canggu, as a resort, has a well-developed infrastructure. There are supermarkets and grocery stores such as Pepito Express, Frestive, and Canggu Deli. The area offers a wide variety of cafes and restaurants catering to different tastes. One of the notable entertainment centers in Canggu is the Canggu Club (www.cangguclub.com), which features a children’s playground, water parks, activities for kids, a volleyball court, and a club. Various options are available for entry, including single tickets or memberships. There are also popular hangout spots for the younger crowd, such as Old Man’s, Deus Ex Machina, and Sand Bar.
